Clos Saron Home Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014

Clos Saron Home Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014

Sustainable

Clos Saron's 2014 Home Vineyard Pinot Noir hails from the Sierra Foothills in California, meticulously crafted from own-rooted vines planted in 1980 and 1999. The vineyard, situated at elevations between 1,530 and 1,600 feet, features northeast-facing slopes with alluvial clay-loam topsoil over volcanic ash, fractured granite, and quartz sublayers, providing an ideal terroir for Pinot Noir cultivation.

In the glass, this wine presents a medium ruby hue. The nose reveals an intense bouquet of earth, wild fruit, and a touch of funk. On the palate, it is soft yet focused in flavor, with a long and savory finish.

The 2014 vintage was characterized by a dry spring and warm early summer, leading to an early harvest that began on August 28 and concluded on September 17, with average sugar levels around 23.3 Brix. The grapes underwent whole-cluster fermentation in open-top fermenters without inoculation or added sulfites, followed by pressing after 7 to 14 days of maceration into 5- to 20-year-old barrels. The wine aged on its primary lees for 15 months and was bottled unfined and unfiltered, with a single sulfur addition of 30 ppm.

This Pinot Noir pairs elegantly with roasted poultry, grilled salmon, and mushroom-based dishes. Its complexity and balance make it suitable for both immediate enjoyment and extended cellaring.

The 2014 Home Vineyard Pinot Noir exemplifies Clos Saron's dedication to producing expressive, terroir-driven wines that reflect the unique character of their vineyard site.
