Sustainable, Organic, and Woman Owner/Producer

Domaine Romaneaux-Destezet's "La Souteronne" is a distinctive red wine from the Northern Rhône, crafted by winemaker Hervé Souhaut. This wine is made exclusively from Gamay grapes sourced from 50- to 80-year-old non-clone vines planted on granite soils in the communes of Arlebosc, Empurany, and Colombier le Vieux, within the Vallée du Doux.

The grapes are hand-harvested and undergo a lengthy maceration at low temperatures without de-stemming, followed by fermentation in wooden tanks. The wine is then aged on fine lees in secondhand oak casks for eight months and bottled without filtration, maintaining a total SO₂ of only 25 mg/L.

In the glass, "La Souteronne" exhibits a nearly purple hue with a garnet rim. The nose reveals an enticing array of strawberry, black cherry, plum, fig paste, smoky herbs, and pounded stones. On the palate, buoyant black fruit dominates, followed by red berry tones and minerality, with moderate tannins highlighting the fruity components on the finish.

This wine pairs well with dishes such as leg of lamb, grilled beef, roast pork, pan-seared veal chops, aged cheeses, braised rabbit, and pan-seared duck breast.

Hervé Souhaut established Domaine Romaneaux-Destezet in 1993, working with old and ancient vines between 50 to 100 years old. The winery is situated beneath the 16th-century "les romaneaux" fortified farm, surrounded by the vineyards that produce "La Souteronne."

Experience the unique expression of Gamay from the Northern Rhône with "La Souteronne," a wine that embodies the region's terroir and Souhaut's dedication to minimal intervention winemaking
