Isaac Bowman Port Finish Bourbon, A. Smith Bowman Distillery, Kentucky, USA, 750ml

United States > Virginia

Isaac Bowman Port Barrel Finished Bourbon is a refined expression from A. Smith Bowman Distillery in Fredericksburg, Virginia, named after Captain Isaac Bowman, a Virginia militia officer during the American Revolutionary War, known for his adventurous spirit. The exact mash bill is not publicly disclosed, but is believed to consist of approximately 75% corn, 15% rye, and 10% malted barley. The bourbon undergoes aging in charred white oak barrels, followed by a finishing period in port barrels sourced from Virginia wineries and Portugal, lasting between three to six months.

The finishing process imparts a dark amber hue with a reddish tint to the bourbon. On the nose, it presents aromas of cherry, baked apple, jammy fruit, vanilla, brown spice, and toasted pecans. The palate is bold and sweet, featuring toasty notes from French and American oak, culminating in a long, smooth finish that lingers pleasantly.

It can be enjoyed neat or on the rocks, and pairs particularly well with rich desserts.
