La Gritona, Reposado Tequila 100% de Agave (NV)

La Gritona Reposado Tequila is a 100% blue agave spirit crafted by Master Distiller Melly Barajas and her all-women team at her boutique distillery in Valle de Guadalupe, Jalisco, Mexico (NOM 1533). The agave plants, aged 8 to 10 years, are harvested from the iron-rich red soils of the Jalisco highlands at peak maturity. Within 24 hours of trimming, the piñas are steam-cooked in thick-walled earthen ovens for 24 hours, then rested for another 24 hours before being crushed using steel shredders. The collected liquid undergoes natural fermentation in open steel vats, followed by double distillation in steel stills with copper coils. The tequila is then rested for eight months in reused American whiskey barrels, which have been lightly charred to minimize the influence of oak and whiskey flavors, allowing the agave's natural character to shine through.

This reposado is light on sweetness, retaining the true essence of the agave plant. It offers herbaceous and vegetal notes, without the typical oak, pepper, vanilla, or dulce de leche flavors often found in highland reposados. The result is a crisp profile reminiscent of a quality silver tequila, subtly enhanced by careful aging. The finish is exceptionally smooth, with no burn.

La Gritona Reposado is best enjoyed neat, without ice, lime, salt, or mixers. It pairs well with a cold Mexican lager or pilsner. The bottles are hand-blown from recycled Mexican glass in Zapopan, an hour from the distillery.
