Maurer Fruška Gora Karom
Maurer Fruška Gora Karom
Serbia > Subotica-Horgos
Maurer's "Karom" is a distinctive white blend from Serbia's Fruška Gora region, combining indigenous grape varieties: 53% Szerémi Zöld, 19% Bakator, 19% Tamjanika, and 9% Mézes Fehér. The grapes are co-fermented with three days of skin maceration and aged for 16 months in barrel, resulting in a wine with a rich, floral, and aromatic profile.
In the glass, it presents a straw-yellow hue with a slight haze, indicative of its minimal interventionist winemaking process. The nose is greeted with pronounced aromas of green apple, pineapple, orange blossom and honeycomb, plus ginger and nutmeg. On the palate, it offers a creamy texture with flinty minerality, vibrant acidity, and a savory finish, showcasing ripe pear, passion fruit, and cedar notes. It's very layered, and very rewarding.
This wine is produced organically, with the vineyard's volcanic bedrock contributing to its unique character. The name "Karom" reflects the historical name of the region, Sremski Karlovci, highlighting Maurer's dedication to preserving local heritage.
"Karom" pairs elegantly with seafood, poultry, and dishes featuring fresh herbs, making it a versatile choice for various culinary experiences. Its complex profile and commitment to minimal intervention winemaking make it a noteworthy selection for enthusiasts seeking authentic expressions of Serbian terroir.
